Artificial intelligence at the service of avocado sorting
Among the most popular and exported tropical fruits in the world, the avocado presents numerous parameters on which to base the evaluation of the qualitative level.
From the imperfections on the surface to the presence of hollowed interiors or defects tied to the seed: the application of artificial intelligence to the automated sorting procedure, makes it possible to establish the parameters with extreme precision and, therefore, to obtain lots with very high qualitative standards.
The parameters of perfection: from external to internal defects
The Ser.mac calibration system for the avocado takes advantage of an innovative algorithm to classify both the internal and external defects of the product.
For the superficial imperfections, it uses a multi-sensory approach that identifies and classifies the defect based on an analysis of colour and of a 3D reconstruction of the fruit.
For the internal defects, such as the presence of empty spaces, dead seeds or a low pulp percentage, the artificial intelligence uses an X-ray scanner (which in no way damages the quality of the product).
