Ser.mac at Congreso del Aguacate Jalisco 2026: technology at the heart of the avocado industry

Ser.mac took part in the 10th Congreso del Aguacate Jalisco 2026, a meeting point for producers, packing houses, industry professionals and specialized companies in the avocado sector.

Being in Jalisco provided an important opportunity to engage directly with those who face the challenges of avocado sorting, quality and product enhancement every day.

Macfrut 2023: Ser.mac at Booth 78 with HDiA Artificial Intelligence

Ser.mac is participating as an exhibitor at Macfrut 2023 with its team of experts and a large exhibition space dedicated to innovations in fruit and vegetable processing automation.

From Wednesday, May 3 to Friday, May 5, 2023, Macfrut at Rimini Expo Centre will be the world capital of the blueberry, the symbolic fruit of this edition. Ser.mac could not miss the appointment as an exhibitor: the Italian company, which has specialized for more than 30 years in the design and production of processing lines for fruit and vegetables, will also take this opportunity to continue its path of worldwide presence and growth.

In the last two years, the consumption of small fruits and vegetables such as berries has increased exponentially. The evolution of purchases of this category of fruits is evident: in Italy alone we have gone from about 6,000 tons in 2016 to 16,000 in the recent 2022. Blueberries are protagonists of this explosion, as they are protagonists in Ser.mac’s automation vision and at Macfrut 2023 in Rimini.

“Experts put the global consumption of blueberries at 2 million tons within the next ten years, with a purchase in the European area alone of 860 grams per head before 2026,” a Macfrut note reports. “To say that the future will be under the sign of the blueberry is to tell how an almost niche product has become a consumption trend on the tables of half the world in just a few years.

Fruit Logistica 2024: great interest in new products signed Ser.mac

The Ser.mac team participated in Fruit Logistica 2024, generating much interest in the new machinery with Artificial Intelligence dedicated to nuts and dates.

A successful edition.

From February 7 to 9, we participated in Fruit Logistica, the most important international exhibition in the fruit and vegetable sector, which every year brings to our booth many visitors interested in the latest innovations.
More than any other edition, Fruit Logistica 2024 surprised us with the large turnout of professionals who came to the fair looking for new solutions for their business – many of them, were attracted by the brand-new machines with Artificial Intelligence for nuts and dates signed Ser.mac.

The latest new entries in Ser.mac’s product portfolio are the date grader and the walnut grader, both equipped with Artificial Intelligence capable of detecting defects in these two fruits that are difficult to grade because of their organoleptic characteristics. As for dates, Ser.mac has created GHIBLI, the grader that handles different varieties of the product, including the very delicate “Medjool.” This solution identifies its color, weight, diameter, and internal and external quality. In contrast, for walnuts, a grader has been introduced to the fruit and vegetable market that goes beyond their irregular and tough shells, thanks to roller cups that quantify their weight and diameter, and a trolley that rotates the fruit 360 degrees showing every smallest detail to Artificial Intelligence cameras.

These two new technologies automatically discard dates and nuts that do not meet the values of interest, ensuring that only products that fully conform to the target market are sold.

A look back to the past to make great strides toward the future.

Ser.mac has created a solution that can ensure proper sorting for dates, whose defects are extremely difficult to detect given their organoleptic characteristics.

This is GHIBLI, the perfect sorting machine for processing different varieties of dates, including the very delicate “Medjool”. This machine uses Artificial Intelligence and an innovative algorithm to classify defects related to the color, weight, diameter, and internal and external quality of dates.

Empty and rotten nuts no longer have a chance with the Ser.mac grader.
Another news by Ser.mac is the sorting machine for walnuts, fruits that hide their external and internal imperfections well because of their irregular and very tough shell.

This new solution has a trolley that rotates the fruit 360 degrees, showing its every smallest detail to AI cameras, and it also has roller cups that quantify its weight and diameter. Thanks to this new technology, rotten or empty nuts are immediately discarded so that only the highest quality products are obtained and distributed. This is a machine that has only just been introduced in the range of solutions, but it has already brought great results, so much so that Ser.mac’s Sales Director concludes by telling that <<a plant has already been sold that impressed the customer for the precision achieved in sorting poor quality nuts>>.

Artificial intelligence at the service of avocado sorting

Among the most popular and exported tropical fruits in the world, the avocado presents numerous parameters on which to base the evaluation of the qualitative level.

From the imperfections on the surface to the presence of hollowed interiors or defects tied to the seed: the application of artificial intelligence to the automated sorting procedure, makes it possible to establish the parameters with extreme precision and, therefore, to obtain lots with very high qualitative standards.

The parameters of perfection: from external to internal defects

The Ser.mac calibration system for the avocado takes advantage of an innovative algorithm to classify both the internal and external defects of the product.

For the superficial imperfections, it uses a multi-sensory approach that identifies and classifies the defect based on an analysis of colour and of a 3D reconstruction of the fruit.

For the internal defects, such as the presence of empty spaces, dead seeds or a low pulp percentage, the artificial intelligence uses an X-ray scanner (which in no way damages the quality of the product).
